What is PDF Booklet Creation?

PDF booklet creation is the imposition layout that rearranges pages for saddle-stitch binding. Pages are placed so that when folded they read in the correct order. PdfMetric's PDF Booklet tool reorders pages to create pamphlets, zines, and small books. It works with duplex printing settings, and page count must be a multiple of 4.

Saddle-stitch binding involves stapling folded sheets at the spine. In a booklet, the first and last pages are printed side by side; inner pages are also paired. For an 8-page booklet: 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 are on the same sheet. Without correct imposition, page order is wrong. For home-printed booklets, duplex printing and proper page order are required.

Page Count and Binding

Booklet page count must be a multiple of 4: 4, 8, 12, 16... Blank pages are added if needed. Zines and pamphlets are typically 8 or 16 pages. Small books may be 20–40 pages. In duplex printing, long-edge or short-edge flip is chosen based on binding edge.
